HOD's Remark

The department of Agricultural Economics and Extension (AEE) was established in the year 2011, it started with two Academic staffs, one Higher Executive Officer and one Technologist. Currently, the Staff strength has grown to eighteen comprising fourteen Academic staff, one technologist, two confidential Secretaries and one Executive Officer. The Department can boast of three erudite Professors, three Senior Lecturers, two Lecturers I, five Assistant Lecturers and one Graduate Assistant. Thirteen of which are permanent staff and one on sabbatical. These academics are seasoned scholars and of international academic reputations and offer both academic and advisory services to students and the University suburbs. The non-academics assist in the daily administrative running of the Department. In her own little way, the department has become a big plus to the University as one of its members won the African Brazil Innovation Market Place Award for the Faculty of Agriculture. Members have also secured International research and travel grants including those of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IITA), African Growth and Development Policy Modelling Consortium (AGRODEP), Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) and African Economic Research Consortium (AERC). Some of the departmental staff were also ranked among top scientists in Nigerian Institutions according to their Google schoolar public profiles. (see online at www//http//:Ranking of scientists in Nigerian Institutions according to their GSC public profiles Ranking Web of Universities.htm march 2015 rating)

In terms of student enrolment, the Department has a total of one hundred and six students consisting of six, eleven, fourteen, seventeen and forty five in her 500, 400, 300, 200 and 100 levels respectively. The department will be graduating its first set of grandaunts with the final year students almost completing their research work for the year 2015/2016 academic year.

Therefore the department can pride itself as ready to release one of the finest agricultural graduates in the country. The Department also availed her students, facilities for field trips and economic surveys. Students are also engaged in Departmental and individual staff researches. This is to enable students acquire field experiences during their course work at the Department. A well-equipped electronic resource centre that serves the dual purpose of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) and Data processing activities is also in place. With these facilities, students are exposed to economic modelling, electronic extension media and learning and the use of contemporary statistical packages for data analysis and policy advocacy.

Given the facilities and privileges availed students, we cannot but expect the best output of student from the Department.
